Table reveal

Well I finally found a second to sit down and do a real post about my table make over. So here you have it! As I mentioned earlier I found the table and chairs on Craigslist for $40. It wasn't my favorite, but for the price I knew I could make it work. It was in great shape structurally, it just needed a major facelift!

So I got to work. The table top was in the worst condition. I didn't get any good pictures of it, but there were tons of discoloration, multiple scratches, and some marker. My original plan was to restain the top a darker color and paint everything else. So, with that in mind I sanded the top down to get rid of the varnish and all the spots. My awesome husband even bought me a sander for the job! Then I sanded the seats just a little and sanded off the already peeling paint.

Next it was time to paint. I used this Behr paint and primer in one, and to be honest, it wasn't my favorite. It could just be a personal preference, but I didn't like how thick it seamed and I felt like it was streaky.

I did all the chairs white first and then worked on the table. The chairs were definitely the most time consuming. I was planning on just staining the top of the table and then painting the rest black, but that didn't turn out as planned. After I got the top stained I wasn't really digging it. It wasn't the right color and you could still see a lot of the scratches. The thought of sanding it all again was not sounding like too much fun so I bagged that idea and just painted the whole thing black. I'm really glad I did that. I love how it turned out!

After I got it all painted I sprayed it with semi gloss polyurethane for protection. I found the bench on sale at Kirklands and had to have it! I love the pattern, and I think it makes my country table look a little more modern. Now I just need to find a table runner and get some flowers and I am set. And just for kicks and giggles, here's another before and after.

  4. You did an awesome job! I can totally imagine how time consuming the chairs would be. We did our kitchen cupboards (only the insides) and that was bad enough! Great job!
